New podcast every two weeks.

Your Questions – Our Answers

Does the crew offer legal advice? No. The hosts have not been to law school nor taken, let alone passed, a bar exam in the US, so while we might discuss matters related to court, we never give legal advice.

Is the crew providing therapy during the podcast? No. While two of the hosts are licensed clinicians in the state of California, this podcast does not provide mental health treatment to listeners nor to individuals who send in questions.

I sent my questions via email, but have not heard them on the air. Should I resend? No. There are lots of co-parents out there, and we receive many questions. We cannot get to all of them. If you really want your question on the air, you can resubmit it, but there’s no guarantee the Be Careful Crew will answer it.

Meet The Crew – Our Story

It was late summer, and Janella watched as Peanut, her daughter, played joyfully with her friends as her 6th birthday party was starting to wrap up. Only close family friends were still at the house. There was electric excitement in the air as Janella, Sep and a few other moms sat around the kitchen table catching up. While talking, Sir, Sep’s co-parent, arrived to pick up their daughter Sweetie, Sep and Sir casually chatted about their schedule for the upcoming week as Sweetie and the other kids giggled and traded items from their birthday gift bags.

Janella had known Sep for years and seen her communicate with Sir dozens of times. She had even quizzed Sep on her co-parenting technique with Sir, but as she sat and watched the whole scene, she couldn’t help but be surprised all over again. But this time, Janella couldn’t stop the questions that were racing through her head:

“Why don’t they have a regular weekly schedule like ALL of the co-parents I work with?” “How do they seem to get along so well?” “How do they communicate about Sweetie multiple times a week without getting into arguments?” “How did they avoid conflicts about new significant others?”

By the time the questions were done racing through her head, Sir and Sweetie were at the door saying their goodbyes. Janella snapped out of her trance and decided what she would do next.

The following day, Janella called Shamont and asked, “Do you know any co-parents who work together successfully without a schedule?” Shamont laughed. When Janella began to tell him about Sep, he had doubts and insisted on meeting her. Janella arranged for the three of them to meet the following week over buttermilk pancakes and mimosas. Thirty minutes into the conversation, Be Careful Who You Have Kids With! was born.
